Galtieri, Leopoldo Leopoldo GaltieriGal·ti·e·ri, Le·o·pol·do /ˌɡæltiˈeəri, ˌleɪəˈpɒldəʊ $ -ˈpəʊl-/ (1926–2003) an Argentinian general (=army leader) and president from 1981 to 1982. He ordered Argentinian soldiers to take control of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) in 1982. This led to a war with Britain, which Argentina lost.
